Wineries along the Indiana Wine Trail – including Dearborn County’s own Holtkamp Winery & Vineyards – will open their doors July 29-30 for a special “Artisan Weekend” in Southeast Indiana. Each of the seven wineries along the trail will feature two local crafters or artisans, plus a selection of handcrafted wine the region has become known for.
Situated along and around the Ohio River Scenic Byway, the Indiana Wine Trail makes for a great day trip or overnight excurison. Holtkamp, the newest winery along the trail, is located close to rural New Alsace. An estate winery known for their award-winning vintages, Holtkamp offers a large selection of wines ranging from dry and semi-dry red and white wines, to sweet fruit wines and dessert wines. The family-owned boutique winery features an onsite tasting room as well as a deck overlooking the vineyards and pond.
As always during Wine Trail events, participants should bring ID along with them and select a designated driver in advance. The event will run from 11am– 5pm each day. Maps and distances between each of the wineries can be found on the Indiana Wine Trail website, or on brochures located at each of the participating wineries.

Hillforest’s American Girl Day Camp* is back for another year of fun at the historic mansion in downtown Aurora! Open to girls ages 5 through 14, the one-day camps feature the history of the “American Girl” doll series and offer a variety of hands-on activities, including making a fun craft for themselves and their doll, plus a “little lady” tea.
The cost of the special one-day camps are $30 per child, with morning sessions offered on July 18, 19 & 20. Dolls of any type are invited to attend, and reservations are required.
Located a few blocks from the Ohio River in the town of Aurora, Hillforest Victorian House Museum welcomes visitors from April through December. An 1855 Victorian-style mansion that was once home to industrialist Thomas Gaff and his family, Hillforest is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been designated as a National Historic Landmark. Its unique steamboat-style architecture – including an ornate entrance, dramatic third-floor cupola and beautifully decorated rooms – transport visitors back to the mid-19th century, when sternwheelers plied the Ohio River and regularly stopped in Aurora. In addition to its regular exhibit, Hillforest hosts several activities and events occurring throughout the year.
